The House That You Burned Down

by Ezekiel Nigma

/
1.
You've forgotten me, and you've forgotten us You've even forgotten our family But, worst of all is that You've forgotten yourself You once told me that I would never find another like you But, with the way you treated me The abuse you put me through And your refusal to communicate I actually think that would be a good thing Because you've taken me for granted Desolation Left me behind in the ashes of a broken home Isolation Left me behind to pick up the broken pieces all alone I had put up with your lies and abuse for so long Yet somehow I'm the one in this who's in the wrong I endured all your insults, manipulation, and assaults But your inability to help yourself is somehow my fault? Once upon a time you were a dream come true Twisted to a nightmare by a fate so cruel Your love died the day he ripped away your wings A harsh reality that still painfully stings (Detoxify) The venom you put into my veins No longer being bound by your chains Has made it worth all of this pain (Detoxify) This poison that you left inside me From your chokehold I am released And now I have been finally freed Now you're nothing but a blaze that destroys all you touch You avoid accountability by using your disorders as a crutch Making excuses for everything that you choose to neglect 'Cause you're too arrogant and afraid to stop and self-reflect I once thought that you were a dream come true But now I see that this was just a nightmare fueled by you (Detoxify) The venom you put into my veins No longer being bound by your chains Has made it worth all of this pain (Detoxify) This poison that you left inside me From your chokehold I am released And now I have been finally freed Though you like to pretend that you're a witch The only hex that you had ever managed to cast Was this gaping hole that you left in my chest But unlike you, I'm able to move on from the past Because in the end, your disappearing act was for the best You tried to bury me alive But from this shallow grave, I rise From the ashes scattered across the ground Of this house that you had burned down (Detoxify) The venom you put into my veins No longer being bound by your chains Has made it worth all of this pain (Detoxify) This poison that you left inside me From your chokehold I am released And now I have been finally freed I embrace this new opportunity That you have given to me

about

A metalcore song about a previous romantic relationship that I was in. Given that it was quite toxic and abusive, and my ex is a huge narcissist, I have a feeling she won't like how honest in this song I am about the way she treated me for the last two years we were together.

P.S.: "Happy" anniversary, Ashley, or should I say, Rose. This would've been our seventh year together, had you not went and burned down everything that we had built together.
